North Tahoe is a perfect 8-0 against Sierra Lutheran since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. North Tahoe is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
North Tahoe won the last time they faced Battle Mountain and Marlo Johnson did her part to make sure it happened again. The Lakers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Longhorns on Saturday, sneaking past 3-2 for which the team can thank Johnson, who had 31 digs and one assist. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10.1 digs per game.
North Tahoe took Battle Mountain into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-8, 17-25, 27-29, 19-17.
Ximena Trinidad Castellano and Mishel Suarez were among the main playmakers for North Tahoe as the former had 17 digs and the latter had eight digs.
North Tahoe was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sierra Lutheran, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Oasis Academy on Tuesday. The Falcons not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 5th (when they won 3-0).
The final score came out to 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.
Sierra Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for North Tahoe, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: North Tahoe has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Sierra Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
North Tahoe beat Sierra Lutheran 3-1 in their previous meeting back in September. Will the Lakers repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
