Basketball Recap: Spearfish Falls Short Against Ranked Mitchell

On Saturday, Spearfish faced Mitchell in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Spearfish Spartans fell just short of the Mitchell Kernels by a score of 49-47. The Spartans have struggled against the Kernels recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Spearfish's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylon Doren, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bennett Kortan, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 14 points.

Spearfish's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Mitchell, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Spearfish didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-60 victory against Sturgis Brown on the 11th. As for Mitchell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-44 win against Aberdeen Central on the 11th.
