Baseball Game Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Helix Highlanders

El Capitan is 1-9 against Helix since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Vaqueros will head out on the road to face off against the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

El Capitan came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Granite Hills, falling 18-1.

El Capitan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kasen Baker, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Helix suffered their biggest defeat since April 10th on Tuesday. They lost 9-1 to Granite Hills. The Highlanders have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Helix also got a good showing from Elijah Martinez, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martinez is becoming a predictor of the Highlanders' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 6-3 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

El Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Helix, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.

El Capitan couldn't quite get it done against Helix when the teams last played two weeks ago as they fell 4-1. Can the Vaqueros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
