Baseball Recap: Petal Drops Season-High Score on Meridian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Petal). They put the hurt on the Meridian Wildcats with a sharp 20-1 victory on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three contests in a row.

Kaleb Dillon looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Easton Giger was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, four runs, and two doubles. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Tanner Beliveau was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.

Petal always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Petal's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Meridian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Petal didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-2 victory against Pearl on the 8th. Meridian has also already played their next contest (against Quitman), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
