Everything went their way against the Sunnyside Wildcats on Friday as Hoover made off with a 14-6 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Hazel Martinez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Samantha Vasquez was a standout: she scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Monica Raumaker, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
The win got Hoover back to even at 5-5. As for Sunnyside, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-4.
