Softball Recap: Horn Extends Winning Streak to Three

It was a proper cat-fight when Horn faced off against Lancaster on Friday. Horn blew past Lancaster 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Hailey Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Horn got a big performance out of Jayde Ray, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Sariya Clark, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Horn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lancaster only posted an OBP of .118.

The win (which was Horn's third in a row) raised their record to 15-9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Lancaster, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Horn will square off against rival Mesquite at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lancaster is set to take on their familiar foe Cedar Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
