Baseball Game Preview: Walkertown Wolfpack vs. McMichael Phoenix

For the second straight game, Walkertown will face off against McMichael. The Wolfpack will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Phoenix at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Walkertown 3.6, McMichael 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Wednesday, Walkertown needed a bit of extra time to put away McMichael. They put the hurt on the Phoenix with a sharp 8-2 win. Considering the Wolfpack have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caden Joyce made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Russell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. David Olmedo was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Walkertown pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for McMichael, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
