Softball Recap: Harpeth Drops Season-High Score on Portland

Harpeth lost to Portland back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Harpeth Indians came out on top against the Portland Panthers by a score of 9-6. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Taylor Riley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Harpeth let Khloe Neeley and Savannah Sewell run wild. Neeley scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Sewell scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

The win made it two in a row for Harpeth and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Portland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Harpeth will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hickman County at 5:00 p.m. on April 1st. As for Portland, they will be taking part in a tournament against Gibbs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
