Baseball Recap: Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Takes a Loss

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Springfield. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Owen Swenson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Bastian, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Springfield, the win keeps they at an undefeated 13-0.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop is set to take on their familiar foe Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Springfield will face off against rival New Ulm Cathedral at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Tigers have won ten straight at home dating back to last season, while the Greyhounds won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
