Baseball Game Preview: Newman International Academy Warriors vs. Wylie Prep Academy Patriots

The Newman International Academy Warriors will square off against the Wylie Prep Academy Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Newman International Academy has four straight victories, Wylie Prep Academy has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Newman International Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 26-1 margin over Village Tech on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Rey Galvan was a standout: he scored four runs and stole nine bases while going 3-for-3. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Caleb Palmer was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-3.

Newman International Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .696. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Wylie Prep Academy lost 16-1 to Parker-Tarrant HomeSchool back in March.

Newman International Academy pushed their record up to 4-1-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wylie Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Newman International Academy might still be hurting after the 18-5 loss they got from Wylie Prep Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
