Basketball Recap: Kennedy Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Kennedy Commanders came up short against the DSST: Cedar Falcons and fell 69-59. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), the Commanders still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Kennedy still got an impressive performance from Xavier Benavidez, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Quinn Padilla, who went 5 for 7 to rack up 12 points and three steals.

DSST: Cedar was led to victory by Matt Stophel and Same Mehari. Stophel dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Mehari went 7 of 10 en route to 21 points. Stophel is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Pereya, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 15 points.

Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for DSST: Cedar, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-9.

Kennedy has already played their next match, a 49-38 victory against Lincoln on the 7th. As for DSST: Cedar, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-56 win against DSST: Conservatory Green on the 7th.
