Recap: KIPP Bold City Greyhounds vs. Stanton Blue Devils

The KIPP Bold City Greyhounds fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Stanton Blue Devils on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Blue Devils 59-53.

Despite the loss, KIPP Bold City saw an underclassman step up: Jayden Marshall scored 19 points. Mikell Reddick was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Raza Cottey was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 19 rebounds for Stanton. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cottey has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Eric Hayes, who scored 16 points along with two steals.

KIPP Bold City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Stanton, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. KIPP Bold City won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Christ's Church Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Christ's Church Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Friday. As for Stanton, they will head out on the road to square off against Fernandina Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
