Softball Recap: Center Grove Picks Up Tenth Consecutive Win

Center Grove waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They never let the Mt. Vernon Marauders get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Sarah Riley's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sydney Herrmann was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brynn Meyer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Center Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Center Grove pushed their record up to 20-3 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Center Grove has already played their next matchup, a 12-0 win against Shelbyville on the 24th. As for Mt. Vernon, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-2 victory against Rising Sun on the 24th.
