Softball Recap: Cranston West Takes Down Ranked Pilgrim

Cranston West faced Pilgrim in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 12-3 victory. Considering the Falcons have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Mia Crudale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Nicole Silvestri was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Payton Wells, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cranston West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Cranston West has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Pilgrim, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Cranston West will take on rival Cumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Pilgrim is set to square off against their familiar foe La Salle Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots are on a nine-game streak of home wins, the Rams a seven-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
