Volleyball Recap: Natalie Derr Key Part of Team Effort in Red Dragons Win

While McKinley's win against Chaney wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Red Dragons won by a set and slipped past the Cowboys 3-2. The Red Dragons haven't had any issues with the Cowboys recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

McKinley had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 23-25, 16-25, 25-12, 25-22, 15-9.

McKinley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Derr led the charge by getting 32 digs. Those 32 digs gave Derr a new career-high. Karli Cox was another key player, getting 23 assists and nine digs.

McKinley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Chaney, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, McKinley is taking a road trip to challenge Struthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, Chaney and Aquinas will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
