Baseball Recap: Wellborn Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Wellborn faced off against Comer on Friday. The Panthers skirted past the Tigers 4-2. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Zack Pressley and Tanner Ingram made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Pressley pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ingram struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Wellborn's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). At bat, Pressley went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Ingram went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Wicklund, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

The win got Wellborn back to even at 5-5. As for Comer, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Wellborn will head out on the road to take on East Limestone at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Comer, they will welcome Childersburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Childersburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
