Basketball Recap: Cambria Heights Comes Up Short

Cambria Heights came up into this matchup off a tough 25-point defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Marion Center Stingers by a score of 52-49 on Tuesday. The Highlanders were not able to make up for their loss to the Stingers from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Cambria Heights saw an underclassman step up: freshman Nolan Clawson posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for Clawson. Another player making a difference was Garrett Jasper, who put up ten points and five boards.

Marion Center got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Kutsch out in front who earned 12 points and three steals. Kutsch has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Pack, who had 13 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Cambria Heights and nudges their season record down to 3-10. As for Marion Center, they moved to 4-10 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

When Cambria Heights and Marion Center next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Cambria Heights will try to stop Conemaugh Township's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Marion Center will challenge West Shamokin and their ten-game winning streak at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
