Basketball Recap: Argonaut Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jordan Caspary and JJ Lungren

After a string of four wins, Argonaut's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against the Placer Hillmen, falling 97-72. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Hillmen are ranked 123rd).

Argonaut's loss came despite strong showings from JJ Lungren and Jordan Caspary. Lungren went 7 for 13 on his way to 19 points, while Caspary went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. Lungren is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Garcia, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Argonaut smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Argonaut's loss dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Placer, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Argonaut will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Woodland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. As for Placer, they will be taking part in a tournament against Amador at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Placer knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Amador likes a good challenge.
