Softball Recap: Vina Find Success

Vina's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sheffield Bulldogs a 17-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Aimee Shotts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Elrod, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Braxtyn Quinn, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Vina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sheffield only posted a batting average of .000.

Vina's victory bumped their record up to 13-16. As for Sheffield, they are on a 40-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-20.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vina will take on Lynn at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sheffield, they will square off against Shoals Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
