The Killingly Trailblazers will square off against the Ledyard Colonels at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Killingly is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Killingly will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Woodstock Academy, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Trailblazers blew past the Centaurs 12-2 on Friday. The Trailblazers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.
Danielle Veillette made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Veillette was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Killingly got a massive performance out of Violet Schaefer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Schaefer continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Loretta Lannon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Killingly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodstock Academy only managed six.
Meanwhile, Ledyard sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Stonington last Saturday. The Colonels haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Alexia Lemmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ledyard secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Aleecia Helme, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Helme has posted since back in April of 2025.
Killingly's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Ledyard, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Ledyard's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Killingly has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Ledyard, though, as they've only averaged .349. Will they be able to contain Killingly's hitters?
Killingly beat Ledyard 9-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Do the Trailblazers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
