Softball Game Preview: Boyd County Lions vs. Raceland Rams

The Boyd County Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Raceland Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Boyd County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Wheelersburg hit Boyd County with a seven-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lions lost 16-1 to the Pirates.

Boyd County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyli Kouns, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Raceland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Dawson-Bryant on Thursday, sneaking past 1-0. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Davanna Grubb, who gave up just six hits to keep Dawson-Bryant off the board.

Raceland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Boyd County, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-15.

Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Boyd County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Raceland struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Boyd County couldn't quite get it done against Raceland when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
