Basketball Recap: Olathe Takes a Loss

Olathe lost against Gunnison back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Olathe Pirates were dealt a 51-20 loss at the hands of the Gunnison Cowboys. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Cowboys are ranked 119th).

Despite the loss, Olathe still got an impressive performance from Alycia Bollinger, who posted nine points and three steals.

Gunnison's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sienna Gomez led the charge by putting up six points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Yaslin Hernandez, who earned seven points and four steals.

Olathe has been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 15 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Gunnison, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.

Olathe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-24 defeat against Meeker on the 21st. Gunnison has also already played their next matchup (against Aspen), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
