Recap: Kennedy Cougars vs. Chico Panthers
After a string of five wins, the Kennedy Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to Chico. The contest was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Kennedy was outscored by Chico in the second.
Despite the loss, Kennedy still got an impressive performance from A. Young, who scored 14 points. Young set a new season high mark in points with 14. The team also got some help courtesy of Dondre Prothro, who scored eight points.
Chico's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adam Brott led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The match was Brott's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Rakim Young-Thomas, who scored 14 points.
Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Chico, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Kennedy and Franklin will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Franklin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kennedy in California (Franklin is ranked 34th, while Kennedy is ranked 222nd). Chico and River Valley will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully River Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday.
