Basketball Recap: Calhoun Find Success

Calhoun extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 5-1. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 77-76 W against the Cartersville Hurricanes. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yellow Jackets have posted since January 18, 2025.

Calhoun found their leader in sophomore Trace Hawkins, who went 10-for-22 to rack up 28 points. Hawkins' big performance that evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Perkins, who shot 42% from the field on his way to 16 points.

Calhoun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cartersville fell to 8-1. The loss was their first of the season.

Cartersville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nas Bennett, who went 6-for-10 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 48.8% field goal percentage. Wyatt Thomason was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 20 points and nine boards.

Calhoun didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-50 victory against Sonoraville on the 29th. As for Cartersville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-41 win against Adairsville on the 29th.
