Baseball Game Preview: Westfield Blue Devils vs. Somerville Pioneers

The Westfield Blue Devils will face off against the Somerville Pioneers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Westfield will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

While Westfield's win against Johnson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils skirted past the Crusaders 3-1.

Grant Como tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over 6.2 innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Watchung Hills Regional hit Somerville with a seven-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers lost 12-2 to the Warriors. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Westfield's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Somerville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Westfield couldn't quite get it done against Somerville in their previous meeting back in April of 2019 as they fell 8-4. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
