Volleyball Recap: Commerce Takes a Loss

After flying high against Avery on Friday, Commerce came back down to earth. The Tigers fell just short of the Chisum Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 back in August.

Commerce started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 19-17.

When it comes to explaining why Commerce lost, don't look at Laurann Burrell. Despite the final result, she had eight digs, five aces, and two blocks. Burrell is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 19 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Kamdyn Mills was another key player, getting nine assists and seven digs.

Commerce's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Chisum, the victory (which was their 18th in a row) raised their record to 27-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Commerce is set to square off against their familiar foe Mount Vernon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Chisum will take on rival Lone Oak at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
