Basketball Recap: Wren Comes Up Short

Wren lost against Westside back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wren Hurricanes were beaten by the Westside Rams 73-32. The Hurricanes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-16.

Despite the defeat, Wren saw an underclassman step up: freshman Hailey Burgess posted nine points. Burgess has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played.

Even though they lost, Wren smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lamiyah Boggs, who went 7 of 10 on her way to 19 points and five rebounds. What's more, Boggs also posted a 70% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Khalia Hartwell, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards.

Wren's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Westside, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Wren has already played their next matchup, a 63-38 victory against Emerald on the 10th. As for Westside, they will take on Fountain Inn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westside's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Fountain Inn's offense will have their work cut out for them.
