Softball Recap: Sacred Heart Academy Takes a Loss

Sacred Heart Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it four. They lost 10-1 to the Shelton Gaels. Sacred Heart Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Shelton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

As for Shelton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Gaels, who have now won seven matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Shelton's part, Sammi Denihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Denihan has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Wheeler was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeanise Serrano, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Sacred Heart Academy has already played their next game (against Foran), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Shelton, they have also already played their next contest, a 1-0 defeat against East Haven on the 25th.
