Highlights of the Co-Players of the Year in the Golden State

St. John Bosco's DJ Uiagalelei and Mater Dei's Bryce Young both had tremendous seasons and are Co-Players of the Year on the MaxPreps California All-State team presented by Suddenlink by Altice..

Uiagalelei led the Braves to their first state title since 2016 and ended the year with 4,225 yards passing and had 48 touchdowns to only two interceptions. He also ran for over 400 yards and eight more scores. In the CIF Division 1 section championship and CIF state title game against Mater Dei and De La Salle he threw for 856 yards and nine touchdowns.

Young played lights out all season against one of the toughest schedules in the country. The 2020 Alabama signee threw for over 4,500 yards and 58 touchdowns. He added another 10 scores on the ground.



The Braves' Jason Negro takes home the award for Coach of the Year after leading St. John Bosco to the CIF state championship and they had notable wins over DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), Good Counsel (Olney, Md.), Liberty (Henderson, Nev.), Servite (Anaheim), JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano), Calabasas, Corona Centennial, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), and De La Salle (Concord).

First Team

The top rated quarterback in the Class of 2020 led the Braves to a spot at No. 1 in the country and threw for over 4,000 yards to go with 48 touchdowns while playing against the best competition.

QB — Bryce Young, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 5-11, 183, Sr.
Young was one of the most special players in the nation. Led Mater Dei to notable wins over St. Frances Academy, St. John's, Corona Centennial, Centennial, Servite, Mission Viejo, and St. John Bosco.

RB Kendall Milton, Buchanan (Clovis), 6-1.5, 215, Sr.
The 2020 Georgia signee isn't just one of the best running backs in California he's one of the top players in high school football.

RB — Daniyel Ngata, Folsom, 5-9, 180, Sr.
One of the best all-around running backs in the country. Can make plays out of the backfield and at wide receiver. He is set to announce his college choice Jan. 2 during the Under Armour All-American game.

The future Stanford Cardinal had 111 receptions for 2,001 yards and 32 touchdowns while leading the Sea Kings to a 16-0 record and a Division 1-A championship.



WR — Kody Epps, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 5-10, 170, Sr.
Had a record breaking season for the Monarchs. Set the single season school record for receptions (93), receiving yards (1,735), and receiving touchdowns (28).

WR — Kris Hutson, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 5-10.5, 175, Sr.
Led a talented St. John Bosco group of wide receivers with 1,290 yards and 15 touchdowns. The 2020 Oregon signee also played cornerback during his senior season and had the game-winning interception in their 39-34 win over Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in the CIF Division 1 championship.

TE — Mark Redman, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach), 6-6, 250, Sr.
The 2020 Washington signee had 72 receptions for nearly 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns.

OL — Myles Murao, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-2, 312, Sr.
As good as any other offensive lineman in the country. Dominated in the trenches against the best competition.

OL — Drake Metcalf, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 6-2, 276, Sr.
Was the leader for the No. 1 team in high school football. The 2020 Stanford signee can play anywhere on the offensive line at a high level.

One of the most imposing and athletic lineman in the nation.



OL — George Miki-Han, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-1, 300, Jr.
Joins Murao as First Team selections on the offensive line from Mater Dei.

OL — Ché Womack, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 6-2, 280, Sr.
Womack is one of the most underrated players in the country. Has been one of the best offensive lineman in the Golden State for the last two years.

AP — Tyler Buchner, Bishop's (La Jolla), 6-2, 200, Jr.
Put up video game type of numbers during his junior season. The 2021 Notre Dame commit threw for 4,474 yards and 53 touchdowns while rushing for 1,610 yards and 28 more scores.

K — Cole Thompson, San Clemente, 6-3, 185, Sr.
The 2020 Navy commit connected on 9-of-10 field goals during his senior season.

DL — Kobe Pepe, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 6-1, 294, Sr.
The leader on a very talented defense. Demanded a double team every play and the future USC Trojan had 74 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.

DL — Korey Foreman, Centennial (Corona), 6-4, 245, Jr.
The No. 1 rated player in the Class of 2021 missed some time during his junior season but was still one of the most dominant players in the trenches for one of the top teams in the state.



DL — LeShaun Bell, Calabasas, 6-2, 235, Sr.
Was an absolute nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. He racked up over 100 tackles and 24 sacks.

DL — Ricky Correia, Central (Fresno), 6-4, 359, Sr.
Helped lead Central to its first CIF state championship. Was as dominant as any other defensive lineman on the West Coast.

LB — Justin Flowe, Upland, 6-2, 225, Sr.
The No. 1 rated linebacker in the Class of 2020 will make an impact at Oregon right away.

LB — Kourt Williams II, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 6-1, 216, Sr.
The 2020 Ohio State signee is one of the most versatile defensive players in the country. Can line up at linebacker, at safety, or on the line of scrimmage. Is just as good in coverage or stopping the run.

LB — Raesjon Davis, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-1, 210, Jr.
Has been making plays for one of the best teams in high school football for the last two seasons. Checks in as the No. 1 rated outside linebacker in the Class of 2021.

DB — Clark Phillips III, La Habra, 5-10.5, 178, Sr.
Had four interceptions during his senior season even though quarterbacks don't throw his direction often. The 2020 Utah signee was a big-time playmaker on offense the last two years too.



DB — JonJon Vaughns, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 6-2, 215, Sr.
One of the most physical safeties in the game. The 2020 UCLA signee is also one of the top baseball prospects in the state.

DB — Jaylin Davies, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-0, 165, Jr.
Davies is one of the top cover corners in the Class of 2021 and has been making plays for the Monarchs since his sophomore season.

DB — John Humphrey, Muir (Pasadena), 6-2, 176, Sr.
Joins Vaughns as UCLA signees to make the first team in the secondary. Had six interceptions during his senior season and nearly 600 yards receiving to go with 12 touchdowns.

Has been one of the best two-way players in California the last two seasons. The 2020 San Jose State signee had a monster game in the CIF Open Division state championship against St. John Bosco rushing for 112 yards and three scores while racking up 12 tackles.

Led the state with an average of 47.1 yards per punt and also made 6-of-7 field goals on the year.

Second Team

QB — Ethan Garbers, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach), 6-2, 190, Sr.
Threw for 5,035 yards and 71 touchdowns while leading Corona del Mar to its first state title since 2013.



QB — CJ Stroud, Rancho Cucamonga, 6-2.5, 194, Sr.
The 2020 Ohio State signee was named The Opening MVP earlier this summer and answered that with a big-time senior season. He threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 47 touchdowns while leading the Cougars to the CIF Southern Section Division 2 semifinals.

RB — Malik Sherrod, Pacifica (Oxnard), 5-8, 165, Sr.
Rushed for over 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns while leading the Tritons to the CIF Division 2-A state title. The future Fresno State Bulldog also had a team high eight interceptions.

The Arizona baseball commit showed he can ball out on the gridiron too. Rushed for over 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns. One of his most impressive games came against a team loaded with Division 1 recruits, Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.). He rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns in the Dons 18-10 win.

WR — Gary Bryant Jr., Centennial (Corona), 5-10.5, 164, Sr.
This group of wide receivers on the Second Team would be on the First Team in just about any other state. Bryant Jr. is one of the most explosive playmakers in the country and had nearly 1,200 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.

WR — Jermaine Burton, Calabasas, 6-0.5, 190, Sr.
The future Georgia Bulldog should make an immediate impact in the SEC. One of the toughest receivers to cover in high school football.

Leads a loaded Class of 2020 for the Washington Huskies. Had 89 receptions for over 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns.



WR — Logan Loya, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 5-11.5, 185, Sr.
Anytime Uiagalelei needed a big third down conversion, Loya was his No. 1 option. The future UCLA Bruin hauled in 72 receptions for 1,109 yards and nine touchdowns.

OL — Tai Marks, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-2, 308, Sr.
The third offensive lineman from Mater Dei on the all-state team. Helped give the Monarchs one of the best offensive lines in the nation.

OL — Edward Riley, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 5-11, 265, Jr.
Just like the Monarchs, St. John Bosco has three players on the offensive line to make the all-state team. Riley had a strong junior campaign and will be one of the best lineman in the state next season.

OL — JT Hand, Mission Viejo, 6-3, 285, Jr.
One of the best lineman from the Class of 2021 in California. Helped pave the way for one of the best offenses in the state.

OL — Jonah Monheim, Moorpark, 6-5, 280, Sr.
The 2020 USC signee is one of the most physical offensive lineman in the country.

OL — Julian Ripley, Rancho Cucamonga, 6-6, 245, Sr.
Was the leader on the offensive that allowed Stroud time to carve up defenses.



AP - Tetairoa McMillan, Servite (Anaheim), 6-3, 185, So.
One of two sophomore to make the all-state team. Had over 800 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. He will have a chance to be the No. 1 rated player in the Class of 2022 when all said and done.

AP — Jeremiah Hunter, Central (Fresno), 6-2, 178, Sr.
The 2020 California signee was the key contributor for one of the most explosive offenses in California.

DL — Lance Keneley, Mission Viejo, 6-5, 240, Sr.
Led the Diablos with 13 sacks and the 2020 Stanford commit also had 19 tackles for loss.

DL — Tobin Phillips, San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno), 6-3.5, 297, Sr.
The 2020 Stanford signee had 88 tackles and 13 sacks during his senior season.

DL — Tyler Narayan, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-1, 255, Jr.
Was one of the most dominant players in the trenches in Southern California. Played against the best competition in the country and had 18 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

DL — Lando Brown, Serra (Gardena), 5-10, 230, Jr.
Had 99 tackles, 29 tackles for loss and 19 sacks during his junior campaign.



LB — Ray Leutele, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 5-11, 215, Sr.
One of the most underrated players in the country. Was the leader on defense for the Monarchs and had 72 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and three interceptions.

LB — Jordan Banks, Narbonne (Harbor City), 6-1, 228, Sr.
Has the talent to be an impact freshman at Arizona State like a couple of former Southern California linebacker stars were, Darien Butler and Merlin Robertson.

LB — Jaden Genova, JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano), 6-0, 193, Jr.
Was a first team selection on the all-Trinity League squad after a strong junior season.

LB — Caleb McCullough, Pacifica (Oxnard), 6-2, 203, Sr.
The leader on defense for the CIF Division 2-A state champs. He and Banks will add tremendous depth for Arizona State.

DB — Josh Alford, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 5-9, 160, Sr.
Had a team high four interceptions for the No. 1 team in high school football.

DB — Darion Green-Warren, Narbonne (Harbor City), 6-0, 187, Sr.
One of the best shutdown cornerbacks on the West Coast. Quarterbacks rarely looked his direction and it's down to Michigan or USC for the 4-star recruit.



DB — Domani Jackson, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 6-1, 185, So.
Joins McMillan as the only sophomores to make the all-state team. Checks in at No. 10 overall in the Class of 2022 on 247sports and is the top rated player in California.

DB — Jared Greenfield, Narbonne (Harbor City), 6-0, 180, Sr.
The future Oregon Duck had a team-high five interceptions for one of the most talented secondaries in the country.

AP — LV Bunkley-Shelton, Serra (Gardena), 6-0, 180, Sr.
Easily one of the best all-around players in the nation. Broke Robert Wood's single season school record for receptions as a junior and answered that with a strong senior year. Led a talented Serra team in receiving and interceptions.

AP — DJ Harvey, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), 5-10, 166, Jr.
Dangerous playmaker on both sides of the ball. Had four interceptions and nearly 1,500 yards receiving to go with seven touchdowns for one of the best teams in Southern California.
