Baseball Recap: Southold Settlers vs. Smithtown Christian Knights
Southold extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 15-1 to the Smithtown Christian Knights. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Knights this season, with their most recent loss being a 11-5 defeat on Wednesday.
As for Smithtown Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Considering they have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
For Smithtown Christian's part, Erick Aristy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. Aristy has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Quincy Gibbs and Isaiah Gibbs did most of the damage at the plate: Quincy went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Isaiah got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Quincy is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Luke Ruggiero was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
