Baseball Recap: Fargo South Gets the Win

Fargo South hadn't done well against Shanley recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Bruins skirted past the Deacons 3-2. For the Bruins, this counts as revenge for the 14-2 victory the Deacons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Caden Nelson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Nelson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carson Shiek, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Shiek has snagged this season.

The win made it two in a row for Fargo South and bumps their season record up to 8-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Shanley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shanley beat Fargo South by a score of 3-1 later that day.
