Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Dre Saunders and Brandon Mehl Lead Union Local to Victory

There's no place like home for Union Local, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the John Marshall Monarchs by a score of 65-52 on Tuesday. Given the Jets' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 296th in Ohio, while the Monarchs are ranked 687th in West Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Union Local to victory were Brandon Mehl and Dre Saunders. Mehl went 9 for 18 on his way to 26 points and five rebounds, while Saunders went 8 of 10 on his way to 21 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Billy Schumacher, who posted ten points and six assists.

Union Local pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for John Marshall, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Local will venture away from home to face off against Buckeye Local at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for John Marshall, they will head out to challenge Brooke at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
