Softball Recap: Illinois Lutheran Starts Season with Win on the Road

Illinois Lutheran had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Crete-Monee Warriors 10-2 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Chargers, who suffered a 6-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Lola Spada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Illinois Lutheran got a massive performance out of Azaylia Sanchez, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Emma Nagle, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Coincidentally, Illinois Lutheran and Crete-Monee will both be playing Thornton Fractional South the next time they take the field. Crete-Monee will head out to face Thornton Fractional South at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Illinois Lutheran will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
