Basketball Preview: Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers vs. GVCS Broadfording Lions
Cumberland Valley Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the GVCS Broadfording Lions at 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Cumberland Valley Christian, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-37 loss to the Eagles. While losing is never fun, Cumberland Valley Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 251st in Pennsylvania, while the Eagles are ranked 55th in Maryland).
Meanwhile, GVCS Broadfording's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Mercersburg Academy on the road and fell 70-38. GVCS Broadfording was down 60-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
GVCS Broadfording's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brandon Monroe, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Jordan Shifler who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Cumberland Valley Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for GVCS Broadfording, they dropped their record down to 5-22 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Cumberland Valley Christian against the Lions in their previous meeting back in February of 2021 as the team secured a 75-48 victory. With Cumberland Valley Christian ahead 41-21 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
