Basketball Recap: Pomona Comes Up Short

Pomona lost against Evergreen back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pomona Panthers took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Evergreen Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Cougars are ranked 86th).

Despite the loss, Pomona still got an impressive performance from Sebastian Reyes, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Perry, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Pomona smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Evergreen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rob Beldock led the charge by dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Beeson, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 18 points.

Pomona dropped their record down to 7-13 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Evergreen, their win bumped their record up to 14-6.

Coming up, Pomona will square off against Conifer at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pomona is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season. As for Evergreen, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Evergreen also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 65.4 points per game.
