Recap: Northfield Norsemen vs. Whitko Wildcats
After flying high against the Madison-Grant Argylls last Thursday, the Northfield Norsemen came back down to earth. Northfield fell just short of Whitko by a score of 47-45. While losing is never fun, Northfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Whitko is ranked 95th).
Northfield lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hannah Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holmes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elli Baker, who scored nine points.
Whitko found their leader in underclassman Reese Stonebraker, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kloe Krieg, who scored 12 points.
Northfield's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-12. As for Whitko, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-3.
Northfield will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Rochester at 7:45 p.m. As for Whitko, they will head out on the road to take on Fort Wayne Bishop Luers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
