Volleyball Preview: Montgomery Bears vs. Rudder Rangers
Montgomery and Rudder are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2014, but not for long. The Montgomery Bears are on the road again on Tuesday to play the Rudder Rangers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Friday, Montgomery didn't have quite enough to beat A&M Consolidated and fell 3-2.
Montgomery took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 16-14.
Meanwhile, Rudder was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell just short of College Station by a score of 3-2. While the Rangers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-21 in the first set.
Rudder took College Station into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 15-8.
Daniela Ponce put forth a good effort for the losing side as she had 18 digs and two aces.
Even though they lost, Rudder was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as College Station only served five.
Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 25-18. As for Rudder, their defeat dropped their record down to 26-20.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Montgomery has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Rudder struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Montgomery's way against Rudder when the teams last played on October 4th, as Montgomery made off with a 3-0 victory.
