Baseball Game Preview: Leslie County Eagles vs. Hazard Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs

Leslie County hasn't had much luck against Hazard recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will host the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Leslie County turned things around against Morgan County on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 15-5 win. The Eagles' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last five games.

The team relied heavily on Landry Collett, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylan Simpson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Leslie County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hazard waltzed into their match on Saturday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Generals by a score of 8-5.

Trace Kincaid was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Evan Akemon was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Hazard's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Leslie County, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-13.

Leslie County came up short against Hazard in their previous matchup last Wednesday, falling 5-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
