Basketball Recap: Burke Piles Up the Points Against Baptist Hill

Burke won the last time they faced Baptist Hill and things went their way on Friday too. The Burke Bulldogs blew past the Baptist Hill Bobcats 52-9. The team ran away with 47 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the win.

Burke's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathaya Phoenix led the charge by going 7 of 12 on her way to 14 points in addition to six assists and six steals. Phoenix is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Smith, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to eight steals and six boards.

Burke now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Baptist Hill, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4.

Burke wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-44 victory against St. Vincent's on the 21st. After both having extra time off, Baptist Hill and Porter-Gaud will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
