Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pembroke Pines Charter walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Varela Vipers a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. The Jaguars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Destiney Ortega made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isabella Pascual was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Sofia Rodriguez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Pembroke Pines Charter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Pembroke Pines Charter is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Varela, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
