Soccer Game Preview: Kearny vs. Clairemont

The Kearny Komets will head out on the road to face off against the Clairemont Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Kearny managed to keep up with University City until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Kearny came up short against University City, falling 3-0. The shutout was out of character for the Komets seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Clairemont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 4-0 to Mission Bay. While losing is never fun, the Chieftains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 763rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 102nd).

This is the second loss in a row for Kearny and nudges their season record down to 3-3-3. As for Clairemont, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Kearny beat Clairemont 3-1 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Kearny repeat their success, or does Clairemont have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
