Basketball Recap: SIUE East St. Louis Charter Falls Despite Big Games from Breon Johnson and Kejuan Rives

It was a proper cat-fight when SIUE East St. Louis Charter took on Soldan International Studies on Friday. The SIUE East St. Louis Charter Cougars came up short against the Soldan International Studies Tigers, falling 80-57. The Cougars' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kejuan Rives, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds, and Breon Johnson, who went 10 of 22 on his way to 22 points along with six boards and five assists. Rives' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: SIUE East St. Louis Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Soldan International Studies, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. SIUE East St. Louis Charter will venture away from home to take on McKinley Classical Leadership Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Soldan International Studies, they will head out to square off against Howell North at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
