Recap: Moore Catholic Mavericks vs. Iona Prep Gaels
It was a good run, but The Moore Catholic Mavericks unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a serious blow against Iona Prep, falling 42-7. Having soared to a lofty 36 points in the game before, Moore Catholic couldn't push the score so high this time.
Joey Gaston was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Dowdy jr, who picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Moore Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Iona Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Moore Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Iona Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Chaminade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaminade will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Iona Prep is ranked fourth).
