Basketball Recap: Newark Continues Home Dominance on Sunday

Newark proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 26) and on Sunday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Beavercreek Beavers, sneaking past 50-47. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Beavers are ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newark's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for Beavercreek, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Newark will face off against Groveport-Madison at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Groveport-Madison knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Newark likes a good challenge. As for Beavercreek, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pickerington North at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Pickerington North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season.
