Arvin and Santa Ynez squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Arvin had to settle for second. They took a hard 35-21 fall against the Santa Ynez Pirates. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Bears couldn't quite close it out.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xzavier Brooks, who picked up 135 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Rosales, who threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Jude Pritchard went supernova for Santa Ynez, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown. A healthy portion of Pritchard's aerial production (133 yards to be exact) went to Luke Gianis.
The loss snapped Arvin's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-4 record. As for Santa Ynez, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Arvin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Santa Ynez, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 14-7 defeat against Bishop Union on the 15th.
