Lincoln Park Academy is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. One positive for the Greyhounds, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Aiden Perkins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Brock Braswell also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Meanwhile, Vero Beach put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Melbourne with a sharp 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ashton Wetmiller made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Vero Beach let Cole Morgan and Garret Srigley run wild. Morgan went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Srigley scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Terry Pugh, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Vero Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Vero Beach pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs. As for Lincoln Park Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Lincoln Park Academy might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Vero Beach in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Lincoln Park Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
