Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for St. Joseph

There's no place like home for St. Joseph, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Norwalk Bears 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cadets have posted since April 22, 2024.

Katie Dzialo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Dzialo wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was MacKenzie Caouette, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Caouette is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played.

St. Joseph pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Norwalk, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Joseph is set to square off against their familiar foe Bridgeport Central at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Norwalk will take on rival Ludlowe at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bears 3.1, the Falcons 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
