North Johnston is 9-1 against Farmville Central since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m.
North Johnston is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Cape Fear just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 6-1 to the Colts. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.
North Johnston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sidney Stanley, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Farmville Central took on North Pitt on Monday. The Jaguars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 10-0 shutout. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Corri Houston made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Farmville Central let Amber Mozingo and Claire Neely run wild. Mozingo went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Neely went 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. That's the most runs Mozingo has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michele Wirth, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Farmville Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.
Farmville Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for North Johnston, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
North Johnston might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Farmville Central when the teams last played back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
