Recap: Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears vs. Battle Creek Braves
If the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears were riding high off their 70-39 takedown of the Winnebago Indians on January 5th, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was the victim of a rough 44-22 loss at the hands of the Braves on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 70 points in the game before, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge couldn't push the score so high this time.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge's loss came despite strong showings from Mallory Eriksen and Rena Rasmussen. Eriksen scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Rasmussen scored eight points. Eriksen has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Sami Wemhoff continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Battle Creek, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wemhoff has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaid Wehrle, who scored 12 points.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Battle Creek, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Blue Devils at 3:45 p.m. on January 20th. Wayne is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Battle Creek, they will be playing at home against the Bluejays at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
