Basketball Recap: Elmira's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Elmira was feeling good fresh off their 54-32 takedown of Ithaca last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Elmira Express fell 59-47 to the Horseheads Blue Raiders on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Express in their matchups with the Blue Raiders: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Elmira saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mariah Matias dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Matias is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyvia Heath, who posted seven points.

Elmira's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2. As for Horseheads, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Elmira will face off against Maine-Endwell at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Horseheads, they will take on Ithaca at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
